As my
Doctor in Pueblo Colorado used to say to me "do you see a
pattern here?" Dr. Gary Wofford was a pain in the patuty
(also not a medical term) but he had my best interest at
heart. He was always on my case about losing weight. That is
where most of it begins.
I had my struggles with the snacks, the chocolate, the pasta
until one day when I complained of shortness of breathe. I
already had hypertension (from being overweight) and high
cholesterol (from eating the wrong kinds of foods and being
overweight). "Do you see a pattern here?" are the words that
echo in my mind.
My stress echo cardiogram didn't look so good so off to a
specialist I went. Aside from nearly 90% blockages on three
arteries I was fine. So we had a little angioplasty to clear
them up. I am left with Coronary Artery Disease.
I remember weighing a hefty 242 at the hospital. My low
since then was 205. I struggle with weight all the time-a
byproduct of working in the food business most of my life. I
am at 219 now and on the decline. I am much like a teddy
bear gaining weight in the winter and hope like hell I lose
it in the summer.
The moral of the story is this. The older you get the slower
your metabolism, the more prone to gain weight you are, and
the more prone to get Type 2 Diabetes. Don't be in that
river DENIAL-if you see any of the symptoms see a doctor get
tested and find out if you are pre diabetic or not and take
steps right away because doing the right things at the right
time can prevent a huge disease from occurring in your life.
Trust me-you do not want Type 2 Diabetes.
